The Severn Foundation School covers the area surrounding Bristol, and incorporating Gloucester, Bath, and Swindon. It runs as far south as Taunton and Yeovil in Somerset, and Cheltenham in Gloucestershire.

There are eight hospital trusts in the Severn Foundation School, covering a variety of locations and services. The only linked university in the area is the University of Bristol Medical School.

Entry Statistics

In 2018, there were 263 posts available in Severn, with a competition ratio of 1.02.

Successful applicants will begin a two-year programme without a second F2 allocation during the first year. The training location varies by programme, with some trainees remaining in the same trust for the duration, and others moving between the F1 and F2. Both the F1 and F2 programmes consist of three rotations of four months.

Academic Foundation Programme

The Peninsula and Severn Foundation Schools have now merged to form the South West Unit of Application for AFP posts. More information on the merger can be found on the Severn School website. There are 15 posts available within the Severn Deanery.

The F2 year at the Severn School includes a four-month academic block, with one clinical day per week. By contrast, the two four-month clinical rotation blocks have one research day per week.
