The West Midlands Central Foundation School covers Birmingham and the surrounding area, including West Bromich and Solihull. Along with West Midlands North and West Midlands South, this School is part of the Health Education West Midlands Foundation Schools.


Hospital Trusts in West Midlands Central

There are five hospital trusts in West Midlands Central, covering a variety of services over the Birmingham area. The only linked university in the area is the University of Birmingham.

Entry Statistics

In 2018, there were 178 posts available in West Midlands Central, with a competition ratio of 1.54.

Successful applicants to any of the West Midlands Deanery Foundation Schools will be allocated to an F1 programme, with a second application process for F2 during the first year. Trainees may be moved to any trust within the West Midlands during F2, and not necessarily within the same foundation school.

There are a number of different programmes available across the school, with more information on the last intake here. LTFT is available for those who are eligible, and linked applications are honoured at trust level. There is no provision for overseas placements.

Academic Foundation Programme

All three West Midlands Schools are considered as a single UoA. Over the region there are 30 academic posts available, consisting of 10 programmes with three places on each. Some F2 posts in the West Midlands offer the opportunity to pursue training in medical education, but candidates are encouraged to contact the deanery in question to enquire about specific details.
